About Amritsar
The peaceful city of Amritsar is one of the largest cities of Punjab, founded in the 16th century. Home to the glorious, spiritual and cultural centre, the Golden Temple; Amritsar derives its name from ‘Amrit Sarovar’ meaning the pool of nector.
Known for its Jallianwala Bagh massacre and proximity to Wagah Border, Amritsar witnesses a flock of tourists every year. The city is immensely popular for its famous cuisine and traditional road side ‘dhabas’ churning out some of the best food in the country from Amritsari kulchas to fish tikkas. The city is known for its textiles and handicrafts as well.
While the summer and winter months experience extreme temperatures, Amritsar can be enjoyed during the pleasant months of September to December and February to March. With a rich history, legendary food, colourful festivals and warm hospitality, the city of Amritsar is a must visit.
About Amritsar Airport
Amritsar Raja Sansi International Airport is located 11 kilometers northwest of the city centre. The airport serves the Indian states of Punjab, Jammu and Himachal Pradesh.
It is the largest airport in the state of Punjab. In 2009, an integrated terminal was inaugurated which doubled the passenger capacity of the airport. The airport also offers rental car services for your ease of travel.
