Kolkata is a Vistara City

About Kolkata

The historically and culturally rich Kolkata is the third most populous city in India. As the erstwhile capital of British India, the city exudes a colonial old-world charm like no other. One of the friendliest cities in the country, its relaxed and easy-going atmosphere is hard to miss.

Known for its love of football, the bold and spicy Bengali cuisine, delectable array of desserts and impressive British-era buildings, Kolkata was once a popular migrant hub for communities including Parsis, Jews, Armenians, Anglo-Indians and Chinese. While today, only a shadow of these communities remains, their architectural styles and cuisines have seeped into the fabric of the city.

Besides the colonial architecture and historical monuments, the city boasts of several museums, galleries, cinemas and theatres celebrating Bengal’s own art forms — from the Kalighat paintings, dokra and batik to regional films and music scene.

Apart from the swanky malls and global retail chains, Kolkata gets its modern-edge from satellite towns of Salt Lake and Rajarhat, which are the main corporate hubs and emerging business districts.

With plenty of cheap and convenient local transport options, moving around in Kolkata is absolutely hassle-free. There are AC and non-AC buses, yellow taxis and radio cabs, country’s oldest metro line as well as autos and Kolkata’s signature, tram and hand-pulled rickshaws.

About Kolkata Airport

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is the main airport that serves the Kolkata metropolitan area. It is 17 km away from the heart of the city but, is well connected via train and roadways.

The third biggest airport in terms of weekly flights, the Kolkata Airport has a single large terminal for both domestic and international flights. There are separate areas for International and Domestic flights.
