Your flight can be smooth and hassle-free if the right baggage protocol is followed. Here is everything you need to know about flying with baggage on Vistara.
Before we look into the details, we recommend you keep in mind the following tips:
Make note of the check-in allowance. Items over your allowance will be charged as excess baggage.
Make note of the cabin baggage allowance and dimensions.
Note the items restricted in cabin baggage.
Label your bags with your name and address.
Make sure medication, important documents, valuable items and cash are in cabin baggage.
Declare any arms or explosive substances you are carrying.
Battery cells in any electrical / electronic items are now permissible but loose battery cells / dry cells are not.

12 kg in Business and Premium Economy or for CV Platinum and Gold members
Children are entitled to the same cabin baggage allowance as adults.
Carrycots or fully collapsible pushchair/strollers can be checked-in.
In addition to one piece of hand baggage, you may be permitted to carry the following personal items:
Overcoat or wrap
Camera or binoculars
Reading material for the flight
Infant's feeding aids for consumption during the flight
Umbrella (folding type)
Medicines required during flight like asthma inhaler
Hand baggage cannot be accepted if it:
Is unsuitable for air carriage due to its weight, size or nature
Cannot fit under the seat or be stowed in the overhead compartment
Is unsuitably packed
Occasionally we may not have space to stow all cabin baggage safely and as a result you may be requested to check-in some or all of your cabin baggage at the boarding gate.
Baggage that exceeds the size and specifications of cabin baggage, will need to be checked-in. The maximum weight permissible for a single piece of baggage is 32 kg. Below are the allowances for free baggage as per cabin class:

Our customers’ security is our priority. Consequently, certain items are not allowed in cabin baggage, such as:
Liquids, gels, or aerosols exceeding 100ml (including beverages, hair sprays, liquid cosmetics or other items of similar consistency).
Medicines, inhalers accompanied by prescriptions and baby food.
These items will be carried in one clear transparent re-sealable, one-litre-sized plastic bag and will be subjected to the prescribed screening and security checks.
Carriage of “Kirpan” by Sikh Passengers
A ‘Kirpan’ with a total maximum length of 9 inches (22.86 cm), but a blade not exceeding 06 inches (15.24 cm), is permitted for carriage by a Sikh Passenger on their person, within India or on an Indian Registered aircraft.
Carriage of Arms and Ammunition
As per the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rule 2003, a passenger can carry:
One licensed revolver, pistol or shotgun
Please declare these at the check-in counter and adhere to all of the safety and security requirements.
Fill out a declaration form at the check-in counter
The Airport Manager will verify this form
A handling charge of INR 5000 (plus Govt. taxes) will be levied
The following personnel are exempted from this charge subject to presentation of appropriate documents and conditions:
1. Serving personnel from Defence forces, Para military forces and Police travelling on duty and carrying an official movement order that authorizes the carriage of weapon and/or ammunition for official purposes.
2. Sportsmen travelling for a competition or representing the country providing they fulfil the following conditions:
Identification document: Evidence of identity can be established by a photo identity card issued by a government agency or the sponsoring club.
Licence: Valid licence/authorization of firearms and ammunition.
Bonafide authorisation: A written document issued by the President or Secretary of the sports club sponsoring him/her for the shooting event.

Customers are not permitted to carry certain items with them, as hand baggage or check-in baggage while travelling with Vistara. The list given below is not exhaustive and prevailing rules will apply.
Personal Items: Lighters, scissors-metal with pointed tips, realistic replica of toy weapons. (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous)
Sharp Objects: Box Cutters, Ice Axes/Ice Picks, Knives (any length and type except round-bladed, butter, and plastic cutlery), Meat Cleavers, Razor-type blades such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors, Sabres, Sword
Sporting Goods: Baseball Bats, Bows and Arrows, Cricket Bats, Golf Clubs, Hockey Sticks, Lacrosse Sticks, Pool Cues, Ski Poles, Spear Guns
Guns and Firearm: Ammunition, BB guns, Compressed Air Guns, Firearms, Parts of Guns and Firearms, Pellet Guns, Realistic Replicas of Firearms, Starter pistols.
Tools: Axes and hatchets, Cattle Prods, Crowbars, Hammers, Drills (including cordless portables power drills), Saws (including cordless portable power saws), Screwdrivers (except those in eyeglass repair kits), Tools (including but not limited to wrenches and pliers), Wrenches and Pliers.
Martial Arts/Self Defence Items: Billy Clubs, Black Jacks, Brass Knuckles, Kubatons, Mace/Pepper Spray, Martial Arts
Items that cannot be carried in Hand/Checked-In baggage
Explosive Materials: Such as Flare Guns, Gun Lighters and Gun Powder, Explosive material. Blasting caps, Dynamite, Fireworks, Flares (in any form), Hand Grenades, Plastic Explosives and Realistic Replicas of Explosives.
Compressed gases: Such as (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous) Such as Butane, Oxygen, Liquid nitrogen and Aqualung cylinders. (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous)
Flammable Items: Such as Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities), Fuels (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel), Gasoline, Gas Torches, Lighter Fluid, Strike anywhere matches, Turpentine and Paint Thinner, Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries
Oxidizing materials: Such as bleaching powder, peroxides
Poisonous and infectious substances: Such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials.
Corrosives: Such as acids, alkalis, mercury, wet cell batteries (except those in wheelchairs), oven or drain cleaners.
Other dangerous articles: Such as magnetized, offensive or irritating materials.

Lost, Damaged or Delayed Baggage
Lost or Delayed Baggage: We aim to ensure that your baggage reaches its destination safe and sound. If, somehow, there is baggage which is not received, please contact the Vistara personnel at the arrival hall. A report will be filed and a copy will be given with a reference number, which can be used to track the progress.
Damaged Baggage: Luggage is designed to protect its content. In the course of normal handling, your luggage will acquire evidence of use such as minor cuts, scratches, scuffs, stains, dents, soil or other normal wear and tear that does not reduce the functionality and normal usage of the bag. We trust you understand that we are not responsible for this type of damage or any of the following:
Damage to over packed/oversized bags
Items of a fragile or perishable nature
Baggage with manufacturing defects
For baggage which is damaged/pilfered, please report the same to the Vistara personnel at the arrival hall.
